Tale of the Reluctant Bride

Poor Keri really wasn't feeling up to getting married. Could be all the morning sickness from the twins. She waited until last minute to get the dress together, and the shoes were last second. Stole my pearl earrings upon arrive, now that I think about it. "Borrowed" them, excuse me. Some kind of romantic wedding tradition was her excuse.

I met with Deborah Blackburn, the Honorable Old Maid (I was the Maid of Honor) and we scrounged together dresses for the occassion. Fortunately, Keri advised Black was her choice of color for us. Prior to that Deb was talking about maroon velvet or grey silk - and I have nothing in either color.

There was no rehersal for the wedding, so no rehersal dinner. The wild night on the town the night before the wedding wasn't quite so wild. The groom went "bowling" with his buddies, Keri, Keith and I met up with Darryl and his new wife for dinner at the Barrio and a night at the Tucson Symphony.

Keith and Keri managed through the program until Mahler's Fifth - then they lost interest entirely. Keith bought a $100 ticket on a beautiful $100,000 Mercedes convertable for the fundraiser - I advised Maestro George Hanson that I would appreciate him pulling our ticket. He hasn't gotten back to me on that yet.

Darryl and his new bride, who we immediately adored, had a rather elaborate wedding in Taiwan - over 400 attendees, but no honeymoon - so Keri's prewedding dinner also became their wedding celebration dinner. Great company, great food, and a great performance. The Fourth movement of Mahler's Fifth is on of my all time favorite pieces.

I wore a vintage dress that Keith picked out for me at Out of the Closet. It was way, way, way to small. I couldn't breathe. Nichole told me to lose some weight, but I advised her (in short breathes) there just wasn't that much fat stored around my greatly compressed ribcage. Fortunately there was a generous seam allowance and the fine tailors at Nordstroms let it out for me.

Keith picked up some new threads while we were at Norties, and I must say he does shine up nicely. The wedding went off mostly without a hitch. I made all the wedding flower arrangements the morning of the gig - a new stretch in my talent area. I had to "obtain" a few buds of rosemary blossoms from a desert garden bed just before the ceremony when the bride discovered she had nothing "blue."

The next day the honeymooning couple came up to the resort and laid out by the pool with us. Amazing views of the national park, a lovely location.
