The Last Stop [Son Istasyon]

My first experience with Turkish drama was a poetic one, The Last Stop [Son Istasyon].  This beautiful film was intimately shot on location in Istanbul and Usak, Turkey by cinematographer Tolga Cetin.


The Last Stop is the first full length feature for writer/director Ogulcan Kirca.  His father, Levent Kirca, stars as the retiring railroad worker Ruhi. He is a steady, hardworking man whose simple dreams include a house that has a roof that doesn't leak and a vegetable garden.

His children wish for more.  Turgay (Gokcer Genc) has established himself as a conductor, Esra (Basak Dasman) tries to elevate her lifestyle through fame, Onder (Korel Cezayirli) decides to forego traditional employment and education to make his way on the streets of Istanbul.  

I don't pretend to understand Turkish culture, and watching it through this vehicle offered a disconcerning look at what happens when old traditions come into conflict with the modern age.  The conflicts between the generations, and between the sexes, leave one wondering what life in Turkey has to offer for the next generation.

Fair Warning to R&R Dog Boarding Customers

Due to the now 100% mortality of the turkey flock, including local favorites Buck and Miss Cuba, from this day forward any R&R Dog Boarding dog found running loose on my Nash Road property will be shot on site.

We have tried being reasonable. We have tried being understanding. We have tried alternate measures. We have tried getting animal control to intervene in an appropriate manner. All to no avail.

We hold the individual dog owners responsible for the carnage of Bob Valdetta and my daughter, Casmir's tame pets, in that they entrusted the care of their animals to someone who has not even been apologetic for the deadly actions of the dogs that are his direct responsibility.

R&R Dog Boarding dogs have killed hens setting on eggs inside the turkey house, ripped apart prize rare heritage breed gobblers in the pen, and chased the flock up and down Nash road, endangering both the birds and motorists.

Please do not be upset with Mr. Valdetta or myself if yours is the dog that is shot or caught in one of the leg traps we will be placing along the property line. We are simply using the only means left to protect our personal property and pets. Am truly sorry that it has come to this.
